It is another landmark achievement for Tharu of Bardiya district. This is first publication not only in Bardiya even Nepal as a whole. Such type of profile is first time published in Nepal. The profile has great importance for Tharu community and other people who wants to do some thing for Tharu community upliftment. As per the data available in this profile, there are only 4846 Tharus who have passed SLC test to Master level whereas the total population of Tharus in Bardiya is more than 2 lakhs. The calculation shows that the literacy rate is not more than 2.5 %. It means the academic profile of Bardiyali Tharus is very low. The local and national level government bodies should give high priority to indigenous Tharu people of Bardiya district.
The base line survey was completed in the joint effort of UNYC Bardiya, Tharu Welfare Society Bardiya, Youth Awakening Welfare Association Bhaisahi, Jogani Public Service Club Pashupatinagar, Tharu Women Development Centre Gulariya, Tharu Community Development Forum Bhurigaun, Attractive Youth Club Mainapokhar, BASE Bardiya and six indigenous and Dalit student clubs. All the partners have very crucial role to collect factual information. UNYC would like to thank all of partners.
This book is published in the joint financing of District Development Committee and UNYC as well. Both have around fifty costs sharing on its publication. This book is also on sale @ NRs. 200 which could be found at UNYC office.
